More young entrepreneurs from Mayoare wanted for Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur (IBYE) competition. John Magee from Local Enterprise Office Mayo is calling on more young entrepreneurs with start-up ideas or existing businesses to enter this year’s IBYE competition before the Friday, September 29 deadline.

There was cause for celebration for Westport today (Monday, September 25) when it was named as Ireland's Tidiest Large Town at the 2017 Tidy Town Awards, which were announced in the The Helix in Dublin.  Westport's Pat Scahill was also named as the winner of the Overall National Hero Awards at the ceramony.

John Sisk and Son Ltd on Friday, celebrated 100 years since the building of St. Patrick’s Church, Newport. The occasion was marked with a Mass celebrated by Fr. Tod Nolan PP at St. Patrick’s Church, followed by a reception at the Castlecourt Hotel in Westport.

Claremorris Chamber of Commerce has called on the Government to sanction the planned motorway between Galway and Mayo in its forthcoming capital spending plan. Ahead of the opening of the €550 million Gort-Tuam motorway, the business group said plugging Mayo into the motorway network would be a huge boost for regional development.

A new car sharing service has been launched in Westport and Castlebar towns and plans are under way to roll out the operation to other towns across the county. GoCar, in partnership with Irish Rail, Mayo County Counciland Westport Smarter Travel has launched its car sharing service in  Mayo with the first GoCar base situated at Westport and Castlebar train stations and in both town centres.

This morning Sheel E&P Ireland issued an update on the removal of unodourised gas which entered the Gas Networks Ireland Network from the Bellanaboy Bridge Gas Terminal 

The race for the Super League title comes down to this Sunday, with both Westport United and Manulla still in with a shout of claiming the title. The defending champions Westport United know that they need just a point from their game away to Claremorris to retain the title, while Manulla will be hoping they can see off local rivals Castlebar Celtic on the road and that Claremorris do them a favour to force a play-off for the title. If fortune favours United it will be a fantastic fourth league title in a row for the Covies. These two games kick-off at 2.30pm.

Now that the dust has settled on the inter-county season for another year attention turns back to the local scene this weekend with the double header of replays in the Mayo Junior Football Championship on Saturday evening announcing the return to local action. The action will get under way at 6pm with the meeting of Ballycastle and Kilmeena, followed by the clash of Balla and Achill at 7.30pm.

Sometimes it’s not about being the better team, it’s about finding ways to win games when you are probably second best on the day. Dublin were able to do that, they were able to get themselves over the line right at the end when it mattered most and they claimed their third All Ireland title in a row.

It will be a hectic day of action on Sunday, with 16 games across four divisions taking place in the Mayo League. The league pulled the Saturday evening games and rearranged all the action for Sunday, following Mayo's draw with Kerry in the All Ireland semifinal last Sunday.
